Nordic Capital

Founded in 1989 in Stockholm, Nordic Capital is a leading private equity management company in the Nordic countries. Today, it is independent and majority-owned by its partners.
Operating mainly in Scandinavia and Northern Europe in general, Nordic Capital employs over 230 people (half of whom are dedicated to investment) in 10 offices (Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Jersey, London, Luxembourg, New York, Oslo, Seoul, Stockholm).
Since 2016, it has been headed by Kristoffer Melinder, who spent most of his career (25 years) at Nordic Capital. He has redefined the firm's strategy towards sector overspecialization, abandoning the historically underperforming sectors in favor of the best performers.
The platform currently manages more than €31 billion in private equity assets via two ranges of buyout funds: Nordic Evolution funds for company values from €50 million to €300 million, and Nordic Capital funds for company values from €300 million to €2 billion.
An iconic company in Northern Europe
With 30 years' experience, Nordic Capital is a pioneer in private equity in the Nordic countries.
At the end of the 2008 economic crisis, the company began a first stage of sector specialization, gradually abandoning cyclical and underperforming sectors, and retaining only the best.
This sector specialization strategy intensified in 2016, gradually focusing on healthcare (around 40%), the technology and payments sector (around 40%) and financial services (around 20%).
Within these sectors, Nordic has prioritized some fifteen niche sub-sectors in which the team proactively seeks thematic investment opportunities.
Investment quality and discipline
Within its portfolio of majority and controlling shareholdings, Nordic systematically implements carefully timed transformation plans to accelerate development and value creation.
Given the large number of transactions executed in a very limited number of sectors, Nordic benefits from unique scale effects:
- The company has built up a considerable knowledge base, enabling it to rapidly identify value-creation levers ("pattern recognition").
- It capitalizes on a substantial in-house operational team (17 salaried members) and a network of top-quality external experts (100+ top-level contacts)
Nordic Capital Capital's high added value
Nordic Capital benefits from a proven infrastructure and distinct competitive advantages:
- Cutting-edge sector expertise: The company has gradually strengthened its sector approach, targeting growth sectors such as healthcare, financial services and technology, drawing on decades of experience, in-depth expertise and dedicated teams.
- Exceptional sourcing capabilities: Nordic Capital is renowned for its ability to source and secure first-class opportunities. Its reputation, particularly strong in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and its long-standing relationships with management teams, make it a partner of choice for executives seeking strategic and operational support. Thanks to the industrial and methodical management of a proprietary, long-term and prioritized opportunity flow ("Shadow Portfolio"), Nordic succeeds in generating low-competition opportunities.
- Pan-European and global strategy: Nordic Capital stands out from local players thanks to its international network and its ability to support business leaders in cross-border development opportunities.
- An integrated approach to maximize value creation: Nordic Capital has set up an in-house operational team to transform its portfolio companies in key areas (digitalization, internal processes, ESG, external growth).
