The plant aims to 'meet consumer demand for fresh, locally grown produce, combat food insecurity and ensure a healthier, more sustainable food supply', says the municipality's press release. The investment will also create 150 new jobs.
A pioneer in sustainable agriculture, 80 Acres Farms operates "highly efficient vertical farms" that produce up to 300 times more than traditional agriculture on an equivalent surface area. These "new" farms use 95% less water, and minimize food waste and delivery distances - a real ESG feat!
